The countdown to SMASH is on! Jimmy Lange Enterprises and Ice Promotions today announced the main event for SMASH , the first professional mixed martial arts (MMA) show being held at the Patriot Center on November 30. Headlining the ten-battle card will be the third match-up of rival warriors and respected cage veterans Travis “Diesel” Wiuff (47-11, 13 TKOs, 18 Submissions) and Travis “The Ironman” Fulton (181-43-9, 56 TKOs, 119 Submissions, 1 No Contest). Wiuff took decision victories over Fulton in 2002 and 2003.
“Travis Wiuff and Travis Fulton epitomize the extreme toughness that embodies combat sports that will translate into an extremely, thrilling main event battle at SMASH,” said Ice Promotions’ Jackie Kallen. “Area fans certainly don’t want to miss this explosive match-up along with an outstanding undercard featuring top fighters from the region when SMASH comes to town on November 30 th .”
Wiuff burst onto the MMA scene in 2002 and made history in just his second fight. He was the first man to beat “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine and remains just one of three men to ever defeat the UFC light heavyweight. Since then, the Rochester , Minn. native has traveled the country taking on every challenge, including stops in UFC ® : Ultimate Fighting Championships ® , International Fight League (IFL) and PRIDE. The “Diesel” will steamroll into SMASH with a three-match winning streak, looking to remain perfect against Fulton .
Not many people have spent more time in an MMA cage than Fulton, who earned his “Ironman” moniker by competing more than 230 times since his debut in 1996. While many fighters take long layoffs between bouts, Fulton of Cedar Falls, Iowa was performing around the world for WEC, UFC, King of the Cage, Pancrase, and countless other organizations. He has battled a veritable honor roll of talented fighters, including Rich Franklin, Dan Severn and Forrest Griffin. Since his last loss to Wiuff, Fulton has gone an impressive 49-3, winning 21 of his last 22 bouts.
Matchmaker Prentiss Byrd, who has worked with Kallen at Detroit’s legendary Kronk gym and most recently matched on her MMA shows in Southern California, plans to use many top pro regional fighters in the debut show at the impressive 10,000 venue on the George Mason University campus. Fighters or managers interested in being part of the show should contact west-coast based Byrd at (310) 641-1438.
