Operation Octagon 2 Review
After the first Operation Octagon show in January, the consensus was that the event was a little rough around the edges but had potential to be one of the top amateur shows in the area.  After the second event on March 22nd, it was obvious that Operation Octagon has decided to try and fulfill that potential.

A few key improvements to seating (now assigned to streamline the process) and setup (large projection screens to make up for some rows having poor views of parts of the cage) showed that Operation Octagon is addressing some of the issues that hampered the first show and looking to improve.  While it may sound silly to commend a show for trying to improve, it should be noted that Operation Octagon 1 sold out a day before the event, and the second event was likely to sell out also (which it did).  Its good to see shows attempting to put on the best show possible, not just make the largest profit possible.

On the specifics of the event, the fights were a definite step up and almost on par with the Valhalla series in terms of quality of fighters and match-ups.   Overall there were 16 fights including 4 title fights with the vast majority being very competitive.

The only negatives of the fights were some odd scoring by the judges, but that is definitely not a problem unique to this event.

A few notes from the event:

Kore Kombat/MMA Institute continued their hot streak from Valhalla with a couple impressive victories.

Gold Medal Grappling had a rough night going 1-2 overall and 0-2 in title matches.  It should be noted though that both their losses were close decisions and very well fought.

Iman Achhal (look for an interview with her soon on DCMMA) won the Woman's 130 lbs belt via decision despite a fairly significant size disadvantage.

We were very impressed with Vince Nance in his unanimous decision victory over Elder Ramos to become the new 205 lbs Champion.

We would also like to congratulate Chris Conner for winning the 155 lbs belt and Robert Conner for winning the 170 lbs belt.
