Rick McCoy MMA Seminar Review
One of the best way to improve your game is to take advantage of the seminars local schools put on.  While some may be on the pricey side if you don't attend the school, the intensive training and personal attention from top teachers often make them well worth the money.

On Saturday March 29th, Evolution MMA was nice enough to let DCMMA attend their first ground training seminar with Rick McCoy.  For those who don't know, Rick McCoy is the founder of the Grappler's Guild (who Evolution MMA recently team with for ground instruction) and owner of the popular MMA institute.   He is also an accomplished fighter and a black belt in BJJ.

McCoy began the seminar with a short and grueling warm-up session.  He seemed to really enjoy taking the participants into their anaerobic phase but then again they were all athletes…they were able to handle it.

After a water break, everyone got back onto the mat for the seminar and I’m glad to report that it was a success.  McCoy’s teaching style works well with this type of curriculum.  Although some of the techniques towards the end of the seminar are considered advanced, McCoy had no problem thoroughly explaining the finer points and not confusing everyone.

The seminar included:

Brabo choke (BJJ), Darce Choke (BJJ), Chin Pick (a Rick McCoy special), taking the back from turtle(BJJ), defending from a RNC and turning it into a Spine Lock (Catch Wrestling), Armbar from the back (BJJ), Indian Death Lock (Catch Wrestling), 2 Knee bars from half-guard(Sambo),  Ankle Lock from half-guard and side-mount, Keylock Ankle lock from side mount.

Yeah, it was chock-full of stuff but the funny thing is I remember every move! (Usually doesn’t happen)   I guess McCoy taught it in a way that is easy to remember.  I highly recommend attending the next Grappler’s Guild Seminar to learn some great techniques from a guy who continually tests them in the cage!

Stay tuned to dcmma.com for more info on the next seminar.
