Eddie Abramski Interview
In preparation for Gladiator Fight Club 3, Jim from www.bloodyknux.com sat down with Eddie Abramski of MMA Institute.

One of the best things about attending local shows is discovering new talent. In 2004 in Atlantic City, I went to see Jeremy Horn, and left with a new batch of favorites including Ben Rothwell, Eddie Alvarez, Ryan Schultz and Chael Sonnen. My next trip introduced me to Kurt Pellegrino, and that's who came to mind last March when I first saw Eddie Abramski in the ring at Valhalla 5. Right off the bat Eddie took a big kick to the head and the blood started to flow. Without missing a beat Eddie gets the fight to the ground and sinks in a tight triangle choke winning the match. This Saturday in Winchester Virginia Eddie takes a step up in competition facing Gold Medal Grappling's Justin Hickey. Justin is the current Ruckus in the Cage Bantam Weight champ and is on a 4 fight win streak. We had a chance to chat with Eddie about his MMA experience and his upcoming match.

BloodyKnux- How did you first get exposed to MMA?
Eddie Abramski- I first got exposed from the early UFC's, when Royce Gracie was dominating the scene. I was pretty young then, but thought it was awesome. I always thought, "maybe one day I could do this."

BK- When and where did you start training, and where do you train now?
EA- I first started training in Boca Raton Fl. with Mauricio Villardo, a Royler Gracie black belt. I believe I started training in 2003. My best friend Adam Brofsky was a blue belt at the time, and I always wanted to get into jiu jitsu from watching the UFC, so he brought me to Mauricio, and it was the best decision I've ever made. I have since moved to the Winchester Va. area, and now train at MMA Institute/Kore Kombat in Winchester. George Wehby is the chief instructor, and I have been with him for about 2 years now. We have a world class facility, and I am proud to call it my home.

BK- How familiar are you with your opponent, and are you doing anything in particular to prepare for him?
EA- I've seen Justin fight once at Operation Octagon, and he looked pretty good. He's fast and explosive. I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary for this fight, I'm training like I always do, not changing too much. I expect this to be a very exciting, explosive fight.

BK- The Northern Virginia MMA scene is booming, with Valhalla, Operation Octagon, and Gladiator Fight Club what do you like about the local promotions, and what would you like to see change?
EA - I think the local promotions are great. It's nice not to have to travel so far from home to fight. It gets kind of expensive with travel and hotels and all, so being close to home is nice. I think the three promotions listed are the best in the Va. are, im particularly fond of Gladiator. Its probably the nicest promotion I've ever been a part of. I would like to see some more pro events roll around the Va. area. I know there has been a few, and there's one upcoming on the 26 of April, but I'd like to see the above mentioned promotions start getting into some pro bouts.

BK- What are your goals for your MMA career?
EA- My goals are to go out and win fights. I train hard, and I train to win, and I set high standards for myself. I eventually want to turn pro, and hopefully have a successful pro career. My dream is to one day have a fight in the WEC.

BK-Who are your MMA heroes and why?
EA- My heroes are BJ Penn, and Ken Flo, because for one there both great BJJ black belts, and two they are both tough as nails. Most of there wins are in dominating fashion, and when they do lose, which is rare, they're pretty close fights.

BK- Serra or GSP?
EA- I'm taking Serra, because he's a Long Island native like myself, and quite frankly I'm sick of people not giving him a shot in hell to win this fight. I think people forget how dangerous Serra is, not only on the ground, but he's got some heavy hands as well.

BK- Couture or Fedor?
EA- Well its hard to pick against Couture, but I think Fedor is just too much for Randy. Fedor is a pretty complete package at the heavyweight division, and I think he's just to well rounded for Randy to beat.

BK- Good luck Saturday!
